THE ARTIST IN RESIDENCE 15 : In the shower with Janet Leigh

 WOMEN WASHING

people were maybe expecting..

something like a Degas or a Bonnard..

the artist in residence..

has come up with this..

it's Janet Leigh acting..

from the shower..

in 'Psycho'..

the artist in residence..

has married her with this wifey..

from a Vim advert..

it's a play on Munch..

more or less expressive..

it is also about Marilyn..

and Andy..

it is the destruction of his icon..

it is a screen print..

a pattern..

but not a repeat..

this is interactive..

you get to play with the flaps..

re-arrange the image..

but not the ending..

SHE OPENS HER MOUTH TO SCREAM

but the pot has boiled over..

the acting dead..

are dear departed..

a moment of pure cinema..

"the darndest thing I ever saw"

worth 15 minutes..?

the suspense is killing me..

bit of a chameleon this one..

THE SCREAM

this is my take on 'the scream' by edvard munch.. and this limited edition print was created in 1980..

it has two sheets of arches hand made paper..

top sheet printed on both sides.

with the 1950's ad for vim..

the second sheet underneath..

is from psycho..

so this is janet leigh on the shower floor..

in 'psycho' by alfred hitchcock..

I had a screen made from the still..

and worked on the screen prints with inks and..

 paint stripper..

and then worked on the reverse side..

cut out flaps and folded them over..

there is more to see of course..

and more to tell..

MORE ON FLAPS

yo!.. interactive... innit!

so..

as promised..

here are a few more..

blasts from the past..

TAKE FIVE

I was showing my stuff around some..

london galleries in the 1980's

Take Five Mixed Media by Charles Stuart

and francis kyle took two of these and sold them..

the photo from 'the seven year itch' set..

is printed in flourescent half tone..

Take Five 2 Mixed Media by Charles Stuart

cut in to with star shaped flaps..

which are folded back and underlaid by a 2nd print..

and then overlaid with a black halftone of the same image..

neat huh?

WOMEN WASHING

happy with his first punt..

francis asked me to submit a work..

inspired by 'women washing'

I was exited and set about creating..

a flap piece to fit the challenge..

I of course..

failed to ascertain his true idea..

which was more bonnard then warhol..

so anyway my work was not included in the exhibition..

here is my version of women washing..

The Scream Mixed Media by Charles Stuart

so - flaps r us... innit!

I guess i'm just a wheel re-inventor..

a wrong end of the stick kind of guy..

or perhaps I just think different..

- ICONOCLASM -

I felt that this frame from psycho..

janet leigh in the shower tray..

could use a flap over..

so I created these..
